Under Pressure
July 22, 2026
Pressure doesn’t just reveal character, it reveals patterns.
At StrengthsTrail, we often ask leaders: Where do you go under pressure? Do you speed up? Shut down? Over-control? Over-help? Withdraw?
The answer is almost always linked to your strengths, especially when they’re overused. For example:
Responsibility can turn into carrying everything alone and not sharing the load
Activator may push for action before clarity and go down the wrong path
Analytical can get stuck in overthinking and not make any decision
Empathy might absorb everyone else’s stress and not hold a boundary very well
None of these are flaws, they are just strengths doing overtime.
The goal isn’t to eliminate pressure because that’s not achievable (if only!). Instead, we want to build awareness so you can choose how you respond. When leaders recognise their pressure patterns, they gain a pause point. And that pause creates better decisions, clearer communication and healthier teams.
One simple practice next time you feel stretched is to ask:
Which strength is showing up for me right now?
Is it helping… or is it hijacking?
What would “just enough” of this strength look like?
Pressure doesn’t have to be the enemy. With awareness and some practice, it can become a signal and a moment of pause so you can find a better path.
