Before you can lead others effectively, you’ve got to lead yourself. We hear (and witness!!) time and again that so many leaders rush from meeting to meeting, managing others’ needs, without ever pausing to check in on their own alignment, temperature or engagement.

At StrengthsTrail, we see leaders who are highly capable but running on empty. Often, it’s because they’re working against their own natural flow. They’ve lost touch with what energises them, and as a result, they start to feel drained or disconnected.

Here’s a quick self-leadership hack you can try this week:

  1. Notice the moments when you feel energised during your day.

  2. Jot down what you were doing, who you were with, and which strengths you might have been using. You’ll really need to be familiar with at least your Top 5 to do this well.

  3. Repeat this for a week, and patterns will emerge. These are clues that show where you’re truly at your best or in flow.

Once you see those patterns, you can stop wasting energy trying to “fix weaknesses” and instead build your leadership around your natural advantage.

Leading yourself is all about being intentional (rather than trying to be perfect). And when you lead from your strengths, you show up more grounded, confident and authentically you. That’s the path we walk with our clients at StrengthsTrail; helping you to rediscover your energy and lead with clarity and confidence.
