Coaching & Developing Others
February 23, 2026
At StrengthsTrail, we find that great leaders aren’t just focused on their own growth. In fact, they’re equally committed to helping others step into theirs. Coaching and developing others isn’t about giving advice or fixing problems. It’s about activating potential, uncovering strengths, and creating space for people to do what they do best.
One of the biggest mistakes we see leaders making, is trying to mould others into replicas of themselves. It feels efficient, but it kills energy and engagement. Instead, real impact comes from recognising each person’s unique strengths and helping them lean into those naturally.
A simple way to start: ask open-ended questions that spark reflection. For example:
“What part of your work energises you most?”
“When did you feel at your best this week?”
“Which of your strengths do you want to grow right now?”
Even small conversations like this can create massive shifts. When people feel seen for who they really are (and not who they’re “supposed” to be) they’re more motivated, confident, and willing to stretch.
We also encourage leaders to notice patterns: How do team members’ strengths complement each other? Where could pairing strengths unlock new ways of working? For example: pairing a Strategic thinker with someone who’s Activator-driven can bring bold ideas to life fast.
At StrengthsTrail, our mission is to help leaders build cultures where coaching is natural, strengths are celebrated, and people feel empowered to reach their potential.
